Meet the WIC Team

Kyla

This is Kyla's first season at the WIC, where she is working as an Interpreter and Collections Assistant

Kyla grew up in Calgary, but has lived in Victoria for the last 4 years. Despite growing up in a land-locked province, she has a life long passion for marine science. In September, Kyla will be starting her fifth and final year of her Marine Biology and Ocean Sciences degree at the University of Victoria. During the summer of 2024, Kyla worked at the Saturna Heritage Centre on Saturna Island, where she spent her time learning about the Southern Resident Killer Whales and other marine mammals in B.C. She has wanted to continue studying and learning about whales ever since.

When asked what she is most excited about this season, Kyla said:

"I am very excited to learn more about marine mammal anatomy during my time as the Collections Assistant this summer and look forward to sharing my passions with all the many interesting new people I will meet once the WIC is open. I can’t wait to get to know the whales of the North Island!"
