Meet the WIC Team
Tyra Bain
Tyra has been with the Whale Interpretive Centre since 2021 when she first starting working as an Interpreter. Since 2024, Tyra has worked as the Assistant Manager and Senior Interpreter, helping to manage the day-to-day operations of the WIC, train new staff, deliver educational presentations and talks, and manage the WIC's online presence.
Tyra holds a Bachelor's of Science in Biology with a concentration in Marine Biology from the University of Victoria. She has been privileged to volunteer and work for various marine mammal conservation groups in both Canada and abroad.
Science communication is one of Tyra's passions and she loves sharing her passion for marine mammals and conservation with the WIC's guests. Marine mammal questions, ID mysteries, setting up new displays - she loves it all.
Tyra is dedicated to helping the Whale Interpretive Centre rebuild after the devastating fire of 2024 and is looking forward to 2.0. Guests visiting the Whale Shed can expect many stories of WIC 1.0 and marine mammal facts from Tyra this summer.
