Dr. John Ford
Dr. John Ford has been involved in field studies of marine mammals off Canada’s west coast since the mid 1970s. The main focus of his research has been killer whale behavioural acoustics and ecology, but he has also studied other whale species in BC and in other regions.
For 15 years, he headed up the Cetacean Research Program at the Pacific Biological Station in Nanaimo (DFO Science), focusing on the conservation status of Endangered and Threatened marine mammals. John was a member of the Marine Mammal Species Specialist Subcommittee of the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC) for 20 years and is a member of the IUCN’s Cetacean Specialist Group.
He has been a board member of the Killer Whale Interpretive Centre Society since its inception in 1993.
