Meet the Directors of the JSKWICS

Mary Borrowman

Mary moved to the North Island in 1985 and has been a resident of Telegraph Cove for almost 30 years. She was heavily involved in the community of Port McNeill as President of the Chamber of Commerce and instrumental in the funding for the Port McNeill & District Museum. Beginning in 1995, Mary chaired the first community resource board in British Columbia which gave input in local land use decisions.

Mary co-owned and operated Stubbs Island Whale Watching and Orcella Expeditions with her husband Jim Borrowman. Mary and Jim retired at the end of 2016 and have since dedicated much of their time to the Whale Interpretive Centre.

Mary was Manager of the Whale Interpretive Centre for many years and serves on the Board of Directors as Treasurer. As the WIC's matriarch, Mary has supported the WIC and the Telegraph Cove community for over 25 years.

Mary believes that the WIC not only holds importance for conserving marine mammals, but to the North Island community as a whole. She is dedicated to rebuilding the Whale Interpretive Centre and looks forward to the community once again experiencing and learning from its collection and exhibits.
